Join Annapolis Opera for a magical, music tour of Santa Fe! We will have prime seats for four performances at the world-renowned Santa Fe Opera, which celebrates its 69th season with a line-up of classic, rarely performed and new works. We’ll enjoy the celebrated revivals of Puccini’s Madama Butterfly and Tchaikovsky’s Eugene Onegin, a new international co-production of Mozart’s Magic Flute, and Rodelinda, Handel’s timeless tale of love and redemption. We will also attend a concert featuring Bach Orchestral Suites at the Santa Fe Chamber Music Festival, now in its 54th season, conducted by Harry Bicket, the Opera’s music director. If you want even more music, there are optional performances of Tobias Picker’s Lili Elbe at the Opera, and Schubert’s Winterreise at the Chamber Music Festival.
Nestled 7,000 feet above sea level in the foothills of the Rockies, Santa Fe is one of America’s oldest cities and boasts a long history and a rich cultural heritage. Founded as a capital city in 1607 by Spanish explorers, it has been claimed by the Pueblo Peoples, the Spanish Crown, Mexico, and the Confederacy. Today it is a sophisticated city, famous for its diverse cultures, museums, galleries, outstanding cuisine, and of course, the cherished summer festivals including the Santa Fe Opera Festival.
During the days we will make excursions in and around Santa Fe to explore Native American and Spanish sites rich in history and culture. We’ll also celebrate famed American artist Georgia O’Keeffe with a private visit to her home in Abiquiu and view the dramatic landscapes she painted. Annapolis Opera’s General Director Kathy Swekel is your host. She will be joined by music lecturer Nicole Steinberg, who will preview all the music you will hear.
