The musical highlights are spectacular: performances at Carnegie Hall by the Berlin Philharmonic, called “the Rolls Royce of orchestras,” under the baton of Kirill Petrenko, with star pianist Daniil Trifonov, and the Philadelphia Orchestra, led by Yannick Nézet-Séguin (photo left); a new production of Verdi’s masterpiece Macbeth at the Metropolitan Opera, with a first-rate cast featuring Lise Davidsen—the world’s reigning dramatic soprano—as the power-mad Lady Macbeth; and a curated private performance in the city.
